Triathlon Alpe d’Huez
22nd - 26th July 2020
Event: Triathlon Alpe d’Huez
Date: 22nd - 26th July 2020
One of Europe’s premier Triathlon events takes place in iconic Alpe d’Huez from the 22nd – 26th July 2019 and is always one of the most events of the Bring my Bike calendar. The two sections of the event being serviced by our team are the Long Distance Triathlon on Thursday 25th July the and the Short Distance Triathlon on the following day, Friday 26th July.
The Long distance Alpe d’Huez Triathlon takes place in an exceptional setting and over a unique course!
It is unique because the swimming event takes place in the crystal waters of the Lac du Verney, accessible to swimmers only during the Triathlon. Exceptionally, thanks to the authorisation of EDF, a partner in the competition, competitors will have the privilege of swimming in clear waters, at an altitude of 700 m, in a woodland setting provided by the forestation that surround this body of water. Sheer delight, which will soon make you forget the rather chilly temperature of the water, at some 15-16°C at the height of summer.
It is also unique because the course of the bike race is quite simply legendary, with 3 mountain passes on the programme – the Alpe du Grand Serre (1375 m) and the Col d’Ornon (1371 m) – as well as the climb of the 21 switching bends of the climb to Alpe d’Huez, which has earned its well-deserved fame in the Tour de France, which includes it almost every year.
The Short Distance event is also unique! On the menu: the pure waters of the Lac du Verney, located at an altitude of 700 m and where the swimming event takes place, followed by the summit of the Alpe d’Huez, at more than 1800 m. There is something here to match every expectation.
The climb of the 21 legendary bends to Alpe d’Huez will be the main course of this Triathlon. It is for these bends that people come to ride the Alpe d’Huez, and you won’t be disappointed.
Once the climb is over and digested, there’s just a 7.3 km loop to be run through the resort, a worthy way to finish a unique event of our sport. But, as here we are at an altitude of 2000 m, you’ll still have to hang in there to get to the end of this Triathlon whose location will literally… take your breath away!
