Santini GF Mont Ventoux
16th June 2019
Event: Santini GF Mont Ventoux
Date: 16th June 2019
France’s Mont Ventoux is without question the most famous climb in the world of cycling. First launched in 2015, the Santini GF Mon Ventoux is a world-class cycling event where amateur cyclists can test their mettle on a legendary route. A signature climb on the Tour de France, the Giant of Provence has gained notoriety as being one of the most fearsome climbs in the world but don’t let that put you off! While the going is tough, the event itself is a real gem and is one of our favourites – it isn’t called the Giant of Provence for nothing!
The peak stands at 1,912 metres and is, as the name would suggest, pretty windy. In fact, the summit of the mountain is so exposed that nothing can grow there which leaves the limestone exposed and earns the ‘Bald Mountain’ nickname. As anyone with any experience in cycling will know, only the most ferocious climbs earn a nickname and the Mont Ventoux has two – go figure!
The Santini GF Mont Ventoux has two routes, the shorter distance covers 115km and the longer distance takes in 140km. Both routes take in several cols and finish at the summit of Mont Ventoux, a suitably spectacular finish to a truly magnificent route. The event is run like professional cycling event with closed roads, a lead car and excellent marshalling so you can ride like a pro and push yourself on the mountain that has made the names of countless professional riders over the years! Also included in the registration fee for the Santini GF Mont Ventoux is a first-class cycling jersey to take with you as a souvenir. As we know, cyclists never say no to new kit!
The event takes place on Sunday and is followed on Monday by the professional race as pro riders take on the same route as the amateurs. This is the perfect way to round of your Santini GF Mont Ventoux experience as you watch the professionals tackle the climbs with which you’ve become personally acquainted. And while you’re soaking up the atmosphere, Bring My Bike will be there to look after the logistics and get your bike safely back home in time for your next spin on home ground.
